Meet Aaliyah
Meet Aaliyah Clyburn
Aaliyah Clyburn is not your average teenager.
Long before patents, media features, and entrepreneurship, Aaliyah had a passion for helping others.
At 5 years old, Aaliyah organized a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by selling her own drawings to raise money for children in need. Even at a young age, she believed that one person could make a difference.
By 9 years old, Aaliyah began acting and landed her first lead role on the ID Channel television series Evil Lives Here. She also participated in background acting opportunities, developing confidence, discipline, and a passion for storytelling.
At 11 years old, Aaliyah founded AwesomeliYou a line of leakproof period underwear after recognizing a problem millions of girls face every month, including period leaks, cramps, discomfort, embarrassment, and the lack of practical solutions.
At 13 years old, Aaliyah invented a patented multi-purpose pocket period panty designed to bring comfort, confidence, and dignity to girls during their cycle. Her invention includes a built-in pocket feature designed to hold a heating pad or menstrual essentials, helping girls manage discomfort while staying active and confident.
Aaliyah later secured U.S. patents for her invention, becoming one of the youngest patented inventors in the country.
Today, Aaliyah is a U.S. patent holder, founder and CEO of AwesomeliYou, published author, speaker, and advocate for menstrual equity. In recognition of her growing impact, Aaliyah received Congressional Recognition for her work in menstrual equity and youth innovation. Her story has been featured in national media including Yahoo Finance, Afrotech, Black Enterprise, Houston Style Magazine, and Enspire Magazine.
Through AwesomeliYou, Aaliyah has also given back to the community by donating period panties to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital to support girls and families in need.
Aaliyah believes no girl should ever miss school, lose confidence, or struggle through her period alone. She speaks to students, women, families, and young entrepreneurs about turning real problems into real solutions and proving that age is never a barrier to purpose, innovation, or impact.
